Today I thought I'd write about starfish symbolism in jewelry and the symbolic meaning behind these wonderful creatures. People have always found starfish fascinating. Their unique appearance, the colors, the textures. Combine all these things together and it's easy to see why we find these sea creatures so intriguing. But did you know that the starfish symbolizes one of the most important traits that humans have? Without it, none of us can survive in this world. Starfish Symbolism: What is the meaning of starfish jewelry? The starfish has quite a few meanings and connotations attached to it but for me, a starfish represents and symbolizes renewal and regeneration. Starfish can grow back limbs. When they are attacked by a predator (like a crab for example) they will detach their own arm to free themselves from the attacker. They will also sometimes just drop one of their arms to distract the predator. This gives them a better chance to escape. Isn't that amazing? And if the lost arm has a piece of the starfish's central region, that one arm can grow and become a new starfish altogether! Don't know about you, but I find this so fascinating and inspirational. Many a time I have had to renew myself in my life. I did it multiple times professionally. Many thought I was crazy when I decided to quit a stable, good paying job that I've had for years to pursue a totally different line of work. That didn't stop me though. I am a great believer that nothing comes easy in life. Not the best things anyway. You have to work hard and bang your head against the wall many times sometimes to finally get what you want. But if you don't at least try, you'll never know would you? I believe with all my heart, that we often underestimate our true potential and simply "settle" for what we have at that particular stage in our life. "Settling" though is a dangerous thing in my books. It can only lead to regret. Regret that even though you felt that you deserved more, you somehow convinced yourself to not rock the boat and settle. Know someone who's going through a rough patch right now? Why not give them a little symbolic pick me up. It might sound shallow, but I truly believe that the meaningful nature of the starfish in jewelry can really help make someone feel a little bit better and special. The only thing that's constant in life is change. And with change comes renewal and regeneration. We have to constantly keep renewing ourselves, otherwise we might as well be dead. That's what I think anyway. I remember a world without the Internet. God that makes me sound old! haha I remember resisting this new thing that all my friends were on about for years. I'm usually like that with everything. I'm never an early adopter. But guess what, when I tried it I loved it. And many years later, I am making a living with it. What else can the starfish teach us in our every day lives? It teaches us to regenerate our thoughts and mind-sets. We can rid ourselves of negative, crushing thoughts and "grow" new, more refreshing thoughts. We can rid ourselves of unnecessary worries and grow into better, stronger selves. When the starfish grows back an arm, it also means that it has healed itself. So the starfish also symbolizes healing. Healing from emotional stress and trauma, healing from betrayal from abandonment. Throughout our life we wear many "coats". The various layers protect us from the many issues we invariably have to face. But there comes a time when we need to remember the starfish symbolism and take off those coats to allow ourselves to heal. Heal and renew. And become the person we were destined to be.
